Lyrk

Lyrk are insect people. They live in deep under the earth until awakened, when they spread rapidly and destroy everything in their path, but eventually destroy themselves except for a few who will go back underground. This has happened several times during the world's history.

The Lyrk are creatures of destruction, designed as a weapon, not as a race. They have no souls, but only act instinctively and follow their own nature. The Lyrk were made by Semum as a great weapon in war, but they got out of control, and were banished to the underground, so they would only rise if called on by the right rituals or signs. The Lyrk can naturally be controlled by well-trained sorcerers, but are incredibly unstable. If the sorcerers lose focus, or are kills, the bond may be broken, and when control of the Lyrk is lost, they will act by nature, destroying even the sorcerers until it is time for them to return to their underground lairs.

Few have mastered the art of controlling the Lyrk. Semum only granted the ability to the Orks and Minotaurs, captured in six stone tablets, all of which must be active to summon the Lyrk. The Minotaurs and Orks have and will only released the Lyrk a few times before the end of the world.

The Lyrk have fiery blood inside their exo-skeletons, that burns enemies. (It doesn't burn through things, but it hurts and stings.) They vary in shape and size, and each time they are released they are different, because they are constantly mutating.

Here is a picture I found which resembles a very human-like Lyrk. Many of their other forms and mutations result in less humanoid shapes.

Yeah, and what exactly is the nature of the Lyrk ? You never said that . . .

And the pic looks like an oversized ant-wasp, but nevermind that . . .

Also, when they are summoned, do they have a hive mind or something, with the sorcerors controlling them being the queen, well, six queens. ;)

And you haven't compared them to the other races of Semum, so it's a bit confusing knowing their viciousness/destructiveness. :? Do they swarm because they can't be compared to a skilled human soldier ? Are they physically so powerful that a dozen Lyrk can hold their ground against a bunch (5-10) of Minotaurs/ogres ?

What do you mean by their nature? It's really just to clear out the land and keep eating stuff, if I understand your meaning.

Their bodies are different depending on the breeds, which are different each time they appear, because they mutate, kinda like a virus.

The Sorcerers are just keeping control over them, but the native queens will be the ones laying eggs underground in the hive for thousands of years. When summoned, they just start spreading rapidly, eating stuff, and continuing to mutate, perhaps adapting to their enemies strengths.

About strength, it would depend on the breed, because each one would have different strengths and weaknesses, overall size and power would be different, etc.

They are a bit like the Zerg, but their forms don't vary nearly as much. They all have some similar attributes, like number of limbs, overall shape of the body and head. The picture is what they would look like as close to humanoid as possible, but some breeds would use more limbs as legs and fewer as arms, and other things. Some might be able to fly, whereas some wouldn't have the wing strength and size.
