John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

Postby YamsInACan_111 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 10:13 pm

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, better know as J.R.R. Tolkien was the writer of The Lord of the Rings, as well as The Hobbit and The Silmarrilion

As well, Tolkien was a devote Christian, and was the person who brought C.S. Lewis, the author of the Chronicles of Narnia, out of Atheism. But then broke his friendship when C.S. Lewis joined a different church  . His Lifetime: January 3, 1892 –September 2, 1973. The engravings on his tombstone read John Ronald:
Reuel Tolkien
Beren
1892–1973
While his wifes was:
Edith Mary Tolkien
Lúthien
1889–1971

If their is anymore "Did you knows" about Tolkien you know, please post them here. 8-)

Did you know that Tolkien's creation of Númenor was actually from a challenge C.S Lewis gave him to write a story about time-travel. while C.S. Lewis wrote about space-travel? Although, Tolkien's time-travel story didn't work out, it created the idea of Númenor.

More about this can be found in Volume 5 of the History of Middle-Earth.

Yeah, I read some of C.S. Lewis's book on space travel. I forget what it was called, though.

That seems like it. I started reading that, but ended up reading Narnia instead.
