no,

but on an other forum I said as 1 April Joke that Turbine was gonna release a mmorpg called Esrion. And that you could play men, elves, dwarves, gnomes and two races called Kythes and Lyrk. And I posted that map as the map of the mmo.

One said he would look on internet for more informatian, and if he would like it he would maybe buy it xd

You need more than an engine, you need a server and a database. The bandwidth costs are what will really kill you. You could run it off your home computer, but you'd need it running all the time and it would use a lot of resources, but only be able to serve a few people online at once.

Now, if you charged people to play, and had enough customers, you could afford a dedicated server somewhere. But it would take a great deal of investment.

Yeah... I'm just starting databases this term, so I'll learn how to do that.

It's not completely unrealistic, if you know how to develop the engine. You could run it off your home computer if there aren't many players. As long as you can maintain internet connection consistently. It would probably be best to buy a new PC to handle it, so you wouldn't be using it for anything other than that, but you wouldn't have to.

A few years ago, building an MMO was what I wanted to do, but I'm not really into them these days. I prefer RTSs.

You don't actually need to develop the engine, there is software available online for MMO games, some free or at very low cost.

I know, But an engine can be used as a starter for a server or database.

And I don't know the BW cost. What is it ? $10 per minute ?

I know a gaming company who run 5 games with an average of 2000-7000 players online on each game. And they get their money from the upgrades(extra perks) only, and the games have been running since 2002.
